"Linden in All Senses." This is what trees in pots will look like on Minsk's main avenue. Bloggers were instructed to admire them.
The other day it was reported that on Independence Avenue, in places where trees had been cut down, workers began laying paving stones. "Minskenzelenbud" (Minsk Green Construction) explained that trees would now be planted here not directly in the ground, but in special pots. Now, evidence has emerged on Threads of what this will look like in practice. Moreover, bloggers, it seems, have received a directive from the authorities to admire the new plantings.
"A huge number of pots with linden trees are being placed in the center of Minsk. Old trees in open ground were dying en masse due to exhaust fumes, reagents, and difficult conditions for their root systems. How do you like this solution? We await a green center of Minsk," writes the well-known blogger Maxim Pushkin.
"How beautifully Minsk's avenue is being greened!" admires real estate agent Alena Levonyuk in turn.
Some Threads users agree with them, though usually not with such enthusiasm:
"Super! I thought they would do it like in St. Petersburg on Nevsky. Trees in large pots. Beautiful! And to the critics, I'll say this: abroad you would like something like this. But your own you can only scold."
"They look splendid! They'll probably grow big and bushy."
"This is really a way out of the situation. Trees die from salt, but in such a high tub, salt will practically not get in."
"Better this than nothing. But in that case, the small patches should have been removed and the pots placed on a flat pavement."

But the vast majority of comments are still sharply critical.
"What's beautiful about this? And how long will a tree live in such a pot?"
"Instead of solving the problem with salt and ecology, they're making such crutches. A square pot on an octagonal patch, they didn't even think about proportions. And the trees could have been mature. Kolkhoz (collective farm) and Soviet kitsch, it's especially sad when such things are defended..."
"Only plastic trees along the avenue are left..."
"This is what the funding was enough for. In my opinion, there's not much to admire here. The decision to plant tuberous begonias in the space under the trees is particularly depressing."
"Replace the soil and plant trees properly - no, cut up the budget - yes! Did exhaust fumes disappear immediately? Won't the pots overheat from the sun, will the root system have anywhere to grow?"
