The Belarusian translation of Sabina Brylo's book "The Viktar Babaryka Case. A Chronicle of Political Persecution in Facts and Documents" has been published by Sviedki publishing house.

This book is about one of the most high-profile political cases in Belarus's recent history — but at the same time, it is much more than the story of one person. The Viktar Babaryka case becomes a unique lens through which we look at what happened not only to the main character of the book but also to all of us. Through facts, documents, and the chronology of one case, the history of Belarus in 2020 gradually emerges — from hope and a sense of possibility for change to arrests, trials, and large-scale repressions.
The book will be especially interesting to participants and witnesses of the 2020 events, as it can transport us back to the atmosphere of that time and remind us of the feelings and emotions we experienced step by step. Six years later, much has already faded from memory, individual events have merged into one large story, and what happened day by day back then is often perceived today from a different distance. This book restores the chronology — and along with it, the anticipation, anxiety, hope, solidarity, and gradual realization of what was happening to the country.
For those who were not direct participants in the 2020 events, the book offers an opportunity to see and feel them from within — to better understand what Belarusians were going through then, what they lived for, what they hoped for, what they feared, and how our perception of reality changed step by step. This is especially important for those who were outside Belarus at that time, as well as for younger readers for whom 2020 is already becoming history.
At the same time, "The Viktar Babaryka Case" is an important documentary source for journalists, researchers, historians, and everyone studying the Belarusian 2020 and the political repressions that followed.
