Archaeologists revealed what they excavated this year in Bantseroushchyna near Minsk
2026 marked the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the first scientific excavations at the Bantseroushchyna hillfort in the Minsk district — one of the most famous monuments of Belarusian archaeology. However, research continues here to this day, offering a new perspective on the chronology, material culture, and layout of the ancient settlement, reports the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

During this year's archaeological expedition, led by scientific researcher Elona Lyashkevich from the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, researchers obtained several important results.

On the slope of the hillfort, archaeologists found previously unobserved elements of the defense system, including the beginning of an ancient moat. Additionally, a new settlement may have been discovered at the site of an early Neolithic period encampment.
Another discovery was a bronze pin, described as a unique artifact for the Iron Age in Central Belarus.
