Which historical sites in Minsk will be restored in the coming years

The total expenditure for the program across the country amounts to almost 2.3 billion rubles.

The document includes more than 30 events, including the replenishment and digitalization of museum and library collections, the publication of books and production of films, as well as the preparation of nomination dossiers for heritage sites and intangible manifestations of human creativity for submission to UNESCO.

In addition, the state program provides for the restoration and reconstruction of a number of historical and cultural values throughout Belarus.

Thus, in 2027, the restoration of the unified complex of buildings of the National Art Museum of Belarus, which started back in 2014, is planned to be completed. In the next two years, 123.5 million rubles from the republican budget will be allocated for these purposes. The building at 22, Lenina St., will eventually become part of the country's first museum quarter, the institution clarified.

Another 69 million rubles, already from the local budget, will be allocated within the state program for the restoration of buildings on Valadarskaha St. The former Pishchalauski Castle will be reconstructed into a multifunctional complex with public catering facilities and administrative premises. The project is planned to be completed in 2028.

The reconstruction of the Loshitsa Manor and Park Complex objects is scheduled to be completed within similar terms — 11.6 million rubles will be allocated for these purposes in the next three years. This refers to the Prushynski Chapel-Burial Vault, built in the 18th century, and the three-story mill from 1901. According to the architectural and planning concept, the original appearance of the chapel will be restored, and the mill building will house a bakery, a cafeteria, a coffee shop, and a banquet hall.

Within the framework of the state program "Cultural Space," funds will also be found for the reconstruction of the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater — 16 million rubles. As previously reported by Yekaterina Luchina, Head of the Culture Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee, all equipment, the stage, halls, and other premises in the building will be completely updated. Work is intended to begin in January 2026, after the theater's anniversary.

The restoration of the Red Church in Minsk should be completed in 2027. According to the document, more than 5.5 million rubles from the city budget will be spent on it.

Part of the funds within the state program will be allocated for the restoration of objects planned to be completed already in 2026. These are buildings on the territory of Kalvaryja Cemetery (Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, six chapel-burial vaults, and the central entrance gate) and the building at 24a Revolyutsionnaya St. in the historical center of Minsk.

Also planned for this year is the commissioning of the renovated building at 8 Komunisticheskaya St., which houses the Palace of Civil Ceremonies. This historical and cultural asset will not lose its authentic features (panels, chandeliers, parquet, stained glass), but will become more modern: the premises will be re-planned and a barrier-free environment will be created.

Also, "Cultural Space" clarifies somewhat the fate of the pre-revolutionary building at 38 Myasnikova St. Initially, it was built as a rental property, and in Soviet times, it was used for communal apartments. Already during the period of sovereign Belarus, the object came under the wing of BSU (Belarusian State University). According to the document, in 2026, it will be re-profiled into an administrative and economic building.

Almost 70 million rubles from the local budget will be allocated for the reconstruction of the capital building at 154a Partizansky Ave. After the object is commissioned in 2027, the State Archive of Minsk will move here.

The State Program "Cultural Space" provides not only for reconstruction but also for the construction of new objects. Thus, in 2026, the construction of one of the capital's iconic objects will continue — a new building for the historical museum of Belarus in the Orlovskaya St. area. According to the state program, 95 million rubles from the republican budget will be allocated for these purposes. A memorial sign dedicated to the history of the city will be installed near Minsk Castle — its unveiling is scheduled for 2027.
