She opened an account in the Polish bank PKO — after demonstrating her ties to Poland.
The Belarusian leader spoke about this in response to a question from Belsat during the "New Belarus" conference.
«I managed to open a bank account after several failed attempts. But only after I showed my connection to Poland, when we opened an account here for the Office's operations. Only then was I allowed to open a bank account,» the Head of the UAC recounted.
According to Tsikhanouskaya, she lives in Poland based on a residence permit. She also has a Polish travel document, which is issued to individuals who do not have a national passport.
«I am very grateful to Poland for offering such documents to all Belarusians who found themselves here not of their own free will,» Tsikhanouskaya added.
The Belarusian leader said that democratic forces are aware of the problems Belarusians face with opening accounts in Polish banks, but noted that it is important to remember that Polish banks are private, and the state cannot order them whether to open or not to open accounts.
Tsikhanouskaya recounts that at PKO bank, where she opened her account, they are understanding towards Belarusians:
«I myself encountered that a lot depends on the employee who processes your documents. I had an employee who was very sympathetic that Belarusians sometimes cannot open accounts, and that they would very much like to help, but there are certain limitations.»
The Head of the UAC shared that after she recounted her inability to open an account, many people wrote to her with their stories, suggestions, and tips on how to get a card, and expressed the opinion that it would be worthwhile to create some instructions, sharing the experiences of other people and how one can still find a way out of the situation.

люди месяцами и уже некоторые годами ждут такой документ, и тишина.
но самое печальное в том, что даже при положительном решении о выдаче, его НЕВОЗМОЖНО забрать, не имея на руках любого действующего документа. и я не знаю никого, кто смог бы открыть счет в банке с просроченным паспортом.
Офис занят чем угодно, но не тем, что реально прямо сейчас надо людям.
