Sweden: Belarusian emigrants no longer need to travel to Belarus for a new passport
The Scandinavian country has updated its approaches.

The Swedish Migration Agency on August 10, 2026, updated its legal position regarding the possibilities for Belarusian citizens to obtain a passport.
Let's recall, since September 2023, Belarusian diplomatic missions abroad lost the right to issue and renew passports.
The updated document states: under current conditions, Belarusians should not be urged to travel to Belarus to replace their passport.
Belarusian citizens who are outside the country are now considered to be unable to obtain a valid passport document. This gives them the right to an alien's passport (främlingspass) from the Swedish authorities — however, with a limitation: such a document will not be valid for travel to Belarus itself.
