EU and Canada create a new alliance with other countries, but without USA, China, and Russia
The European Union and Canada are preparing to create a new international alliance P4M — "Partners for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace, and Prosperity". It will be presented on Tuesday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Bild reports .
In addition to the EU and Canada, Brazil, Kenya, India, and Australia have joined the initiative. The alliance will be an open format, to which other states will be able to join in the future.
Participants plan to strengthen international cooperation and the role of the UN, as well as jointly work on issues of artificial intelligence, climate change, and combating pandemics. The initiators consider it necessary to "build bridges" between countries with different political traditions.
The new group emerges against the backdrop of growing rivalry between major powers and the crisis of traditional international formats. In the future, it could become an alternative to the "Group of Twenty" (G20), where cooperation is increasingly complicated by disagreements between leading states.
In addition, the EU has already proposed that Canada become the first "associated member" of the European Union in history. This involves particularly close cooperation in economy, technology, energy, and defense.
