Fishermen caught a catfish on the Pripyat, but didn't think it could be stolen

An unusual incident occurred on the Pripyat in the Petrykaŭ district — an already caught catfish was stolen from fishermen. While thefts of fishing tackle or boats are no longer considered rare, the theft of someone else's catch happens much less frequently and among fishermen, it is considered one of the most indecent acts, writes Fishing.by.

The incident occurred near the agrotown Konkavichy. After the fishermen caught the catfish, they swam to the shore and left the fish on a stringer — a special rope or cord used to keep live catch in the water. After this, they went back out on the river to continue fishing.

When the fishermen returned, the catfish was no longer there. According to them, someone removed the fish from the stringer and took it.

One of the victims, fisherman Andrei, said that he has suspicions about who might have done it. According to him, only a few other fishermen saw them tie the catfish near the shore after a successful catch. Andrei also noted that this is already the second time that a caught catfish has been stolen from him specifically on this river spit.

This incident served as another reminder that during fishing, it is necessary to keep an eye not only on the boat and tackle, but also on the catch.
