BNTU postgraduate student retroactively stripped of presidential scholarship — because he fell under political criminal charges
Alexander Lukashenka and Uladzimir Karanik decided to take money from Yury Kastsyuchenka, convicted of "facilitating extremist activity."
37-year-old postgraduate student of the Belarusian National Technical University Yury Kastsyuchenka has been deprived of his presidential scholarship. The corresponding decision of the Republican Council for Support of Gifted and Talented Youth was approved by Alexander Lukashenka.
"To deprive Kastsyuchenka Yury Alyaksandravich, postgraduate student of the Belarusian National Technical University, of the right to receive the scholarship of the President of the Republic of Belarus for postgraduate students for 2026 due to the sentence of the Minsk City Court dated April 24, 2026, which entered into legal force on May 3, 2026," states the decision signed by the chairman of the council Uladzimir Karanik.
In the spring of 2026, Yury Kastsyuchenka, a lecturer at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of BNTU, was convicted under parts 1 and 2 of Art. 361-4 of the Criminal Code ("facilitating extremist activity"). He received house arrest ("home chemistry").
It is noteworthy that only now, in July 2026, Lukashenka approved the payment of scholarships for the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, which has already ended. The scholarship amount is 266.11 rubles.
