"When I was two, relatives took me to Belarus." A girl found her Russian father through social media – but the story ended sadly
Stasi Stralchenia is now 24 years old, with a husband and a son. The Belarusian woman decided to find her father, whom she doesn't even remember – because she believed his absence from her life was primarily due to her mother's prohibition.
Stasi shared her dramatic story on Threads. She was born in Novomichurinsk, Russia, 250 km from Moscow. She says her father, Yury Erkhov, came to see his newborn daughter, but allegedly, Stasi's other relatives were against him having any contact with the child.
"When I was two, my mom and grandma took me to Belarus. And when I was four, we came to Russia to my great-grandmother's. And he came too. But he was only allowed to look at me while I was sleeping. He cried and left."
All of this, the girl learned from her relatives' stories.
Now she is 24 years old. Stasi herself has already become a wife and a mother. But the thoughts of wanting to meet her dad never left her.
As a result, the Belarusian woman decided to test the power of Threads and wrote everything she knew about her father – adding his school photo. Stasi's post was viewed more than 200,000 times and gathered several hundred comments.
Soon she was told that the man had two more sons. Stasi was sent several contacts of his probable relatives – one of them turned out to be wrong.
She managed to find her real dad in two days. Stasi wrote to him, but the man refused to talk to his daughter and asked her not to bother him and his family anymore.
The Belarusian woman admitted that it hurts, but she respects her father's decision.
In the comments, opinions were divided. Some blame Stasi's mother for the situation – suggesting that perhaps the man would have been a good father. Others, on the contrary, believe that no prohibitions could stop a person who genuinely wants to be a father. There are also those who think it wasn't worth looking for the man at all, as he had made his choice long ago.
Someone tried to console her, suggesting that perhaps her father was simply in shock and would contact her himself after some time. But Stasi replied that the man was quite categorical in his refusal.
The Belarusian woman is grateful to everyone who joined the search: "I didn't expect so many strangers to get so involved in my story – searching, writing to me, supporting me. I'm still a bit in shock that all of this even happened. I came here hoping to find one person. And as a result, I found so many people, thanks to whom I didn't feel so alone all this time."
