Belarusian sentenced to 25 years in Russia for preparing sabotage in Novorossiysk
The Southern District Military Court found Belarusian citizen Matvei Kitov guilty of preparing sabotage in Novorossiysk on behalf of an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine. The man allegedly planned to blow up a civilian recruitment point for military service under contract, but was exposed and detained by officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for the Krasnodar Krai, according to the Russian agency TASS.
According to court materials, in December 2024, Matvei Kitov, while in Krasnodar, began corresponding with a person who introduced himself as an SBU officer. The Belarusian allegedly agreed to confidential cooperation. On February 26, 2025, he received a task to commit sabotage using an improvised explosive device.
In February 2025, Kitov, it is alleged, arrived in Novorossiysk, retrieved components for manufacturing an explosive device from a hidden stash, and moved them to another location. Prior to this, he had received instructions on assembling and activating the device from his handler.
In court, the man fully admitted his guilt and stated that he had received 805 dollars from an SBU officer for completing the task.
The court sentenced him to 25 years of imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony. The Belarusian must spend the first five years in prison. In addition, Matvei Kitov was fined 300,000 Russian rubles (about 3530 dollars).
Components for manufacturing the explosive device were confiscated by officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Directorate for the Krasnodar Krai, who were investigating the criminal case.
