Following increased protests in Ukraine demanding the resignation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is considering finding a replacement for him.
This weekend, he plans to conduct interviews with candidates. This was reported by the Financial Times, citing an unnamed high-ranking representative of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration, Hromadske writes.
According to an FT interlocutor, Zelenskyy is ready to dismiss Syrskyi if he finds a commander who can ensure a smooth transfer of authority while simultaneously holding the defense along the 1200-kilometer front line.
However, as the Financial Times notes, the president began considering the commander-in-chief's resignation only after protests, sparked by the resignation of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, escalated into demonstrations demanding Syrskyi's dismissal.
Syrskyi has held the position of Commander-in-Chief of the AFU since February 2024, replacing Valerii Zaluzhnyi in this role.
