"Amkodor" refused to build a factory in Russia that Shakutin had previously planned

The Belarusian holding "Amkodor" has abandoned the project to build a plant for the production of agricultural machinery in Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast. The project was previously promoted by the former owner of the holding, Alexander Shakutin, and its implementation was supposed to be handled by the company "Eksam" created by him, writes the publication "Belarusy i rynok".

Now, instead of this plant, it is planned to create a service center in the Gatchina district for the repair of Belarusian equipment, including agricultural machines and buses. This was announced by Dmitry Krutoy, head of Lukashenka's administration, after a meeting with the governor of the Leningrad Oblast, Alexander Drozdenko.

The construction of the "Amkodor" plant in Gatchina was first announced back in 2021. At that time, it was planned to invest about 740 million Russian rubles in the project. A land plot of 2.5 hectares was transferred to Belarus on favorable terms for the future enterprise.

In 2023, representatives of the Leningrad Oblast reported that the plant had already been designed and was planned to be launched in 2024. By then, the investment estimate had decreased to 500 million Russian rubles, but the plant was never built.

In 2025, serious financial problems of "Amkodor" became known. The holding attracted a large investment loan, but was unable to repay it on time. As a result, the enterprise came under state management.

At the same time, Belarus is not abandoning the implementation of some project in the Gatchina district. According to Dmitry Krutoy, the creation of a logistics service hub or center, which "Amkodor" will oversee, is currently being considered.

He also allowed that it could be a multi-brand service center, as equipment from the Minsk Tractor Works is widely represented in the Leningrad Oblast. Krutoy called this project one of the key ones in the further cooperation between Belarus and the Leningrad Oblast.
