During a meeting of EU country ambassadors, a representative of Greece opposed a ban on the transportation of Russian liquefied natural gas to third countries, writes FT.

Thus, Greece is trying to protect the shipping company Dynagas. According to an Athens representative, a ban on the transit of Russian LNG would effectively "destroy" the company.

Greece's objections have already delayed the adoption of a new package of sanctions by a week, as its approval requires the support of all EU member states.

Dynagas (owned by Greek billionaire Georgios Prokopiou) operates 27 gas carriers, including those built to meet safety requirements for working in icy Arctic waters near the Yamal LNG plant. Since the beginning of 2025, the company has transported more than 10 million tons of Russian LNG on 11 vessels, making 144 voyages during this time, writes Meduza.
