"How is this possible in 2026?" A Belarusian woman outraged by Baranavichy train station with stairs but no ramp

A young mother recounted the difficulties she encountered at the railway station in Baranavichy. After the train arrived, she had to carry her baby stroller down a high staircase from the platform, where there is no ramp or other convenient descent, writes BG.Media.

The woman reported on social media that she was shocked by the situation. According to her, she was lucky not to be alone – her mother was with her. However, both had large backpacks, and it was fortunate that a random guy passing by agreed to help them.

The Belarusian woman noted that she doesn't understand how such infrastructure can exist in 2026.

"It still doesn't make sense how such a thing can exist in 2026! What about people with disabilities?" she wrote.

According to the woman, the train was the only way to get to the desired location, so she could not use another option.

The publication sparked a wide reaction. Many users noted that the problem with this staircase has existed for a long time and it is one of the most inconvenient places on the Belarusian railway.

People wrote that every trip to Baranavichy causes concern:

"This particular staircase always fills me with dread and fear when I come to Baranavichy."

"I think about it every time we go up or down with suitcases and bags."

"I also had to drag a suitcase more than once – quite a quest!"

The situation is described as especially difficult in winter when the stairs can be slippery. Users also gave examples of problems arising for people with disabilities.

One woman recounted that after an accident, she helped an acquaintance get to the train: someone carried crutches, someone carried belongings, and someone helped the person himself. It was impossible for him to overcome such a path on his own.

The problem concerns not only parents with baby strollers. Discussion participants noted that the lack of a barrier-free environment creates difficulties for the elderly, passengers with heavy suitcases, and people with limited mobility.

Some compared the situation to other stations where there are also no convenient transitions and elevators.

At the same time, one user reported that it is still possible to avoid the stairs: near the platform, there is usually a station attendant who can guide passengers through a service passage. Others clarified that there is a passage through the attendant's house and a special path across the railway tracks.

However, many noted that not all passengers know about this possibility. Furthermore, people believe that service passages should not replace full-fledged barrier-free infrastructure at the station.
