Dentist explained how to protect a child's teeth without giving up sweets

Children do not have to completely give up sweets to maintain healthy teeth. It is much more important to control the amount of treats and follow simple rules after consuming them. This was stated by Vladimir Bliznyuk, Deputy Chief Physician for Organizational and Methodological Work at the Republican Clinical Dental Center — University Clinic, writes BELTA.

Even if a child still has milk teeth, childhood is when the foundation of oral health for the rest of their life is laid. Therefore, parents should not ignore prevention.

According to the specialist, parents should limit the amount of carbohydrates and sweets in children's diets. These products can contribute to the development of pathological processes that lead to tooth decay.

However, it is not necessary to completely exclude sweets. It is enough to monitor their quantity.

Another useful habit is to eat treats after a main meal, and then rinse your mouth with water. This will help reduce the negative impact of sweets on teeth.

Expensive toothpaste does not guarantee a better result

Separately, the dentist spoke about choosing toothpaste. According to him, buying expensive hygiene products is not necessary.

— You can buy a very expensive toothpaste, with diamond specks, for example, but it is just as effective as any other toothpaste, — noted Vladimir Bliznyuk.

In other words, a high price and unusual components do not, in themselves, mean that the product will take better care of teeth.

The dentist also dispelled common parental concerns about fluoride in children's toothpastes.

According to the specialist, the amount of fluoride in such products does not pose a danger with normal use. To get a toxic dose, a child would have to eat about 12 tons of toothpaste.

At the same time, fluoride itself plays an important role in caries prevention and helps protect teeth from decay.
