The US President is considering the possibility of buying the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, The Telegraph reports, citing sources. According to the publication, he discussed the idea of buying the islands with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Chagos remains a subject of dispute between the UK and Mauritius. London has controlled the archipelago since colonial times, but Mauritius seeks its return and considers the islands its territory.
The archipelago has strategic importance: the largest island, Diego Garcia, hosts a key US and UK military base. Britain and Mauritius have agreed on a deal to transfer sovereignty over Chagos to Mauritius, but with the retention of a military presence on Diego Garcia under a long-term lease.

Great deal!
