Scammers now have a new lure for pensioners, Brest police report. First, a polite voice calls an elderly person, introducing themselves as a social worker or an employee of the pension fund.
The stranger delivers pleasant news: you are entitled to a recalculation of payments, the state is ready to add more money. The calculation is perfect, because who would refuse an increase in their pension? And the person is ready to follow instructions.
Riding this wave, scammers easily extract passport data or codes that come to the person's phone in a message.
Next — the standard scheme. A supposed law enforcement officer calls. He shocks with the news that criminals have just seized the pensioner's personal data and are about to steal everything down to the last penny. The person is pressured, put under stress, and not given a minute to catch their breath. To «save» their hard-earned money, the pensioner rushes to an ATM and transfers all their savings to a «safe account» or simply hands a package of money to a courier.
The police advise reminding parents, grandmothers, and grandfathers once again. If the conversation turns to money or SMS codes — you should just hang up.
