Economist Pavel Daneyko's apartment sold at auction under an atypical scheme
In Belarus, another arrested apartment belonging to a person who left the country was sold. The property in question belongs to the well-known Belarusian economist Pavel Daneyko. Information about the sale appeared on the "BelYurZabespechenie" platform, where seized property is sold, as noted by the publication "Zerkalo".

Daneyko's apartment had previously been put up for auction several times. The last auction was scheduled for June 4, 2026. Only one potential buyer was admitted to participate, so in normal practice, such an auction would not have taken place, after which a new auction could have been scheduled after some time, often with a reduced price.
However, in this case, a different scheme was used. A new auction completion date, June 12, later appeared in the lot information, while the initial price of the apartment remained unchanged at 589,600 Belarusian rubles.
As a result, the documents indicated that the auction itself did not take place, but the sole participant admitted to the bidding agreed to purchase the apartment at the specified price. Thus, the property was sold without a full competitive struggle between several buyers.
Journalists from "Zerkalo" note that this method of sale seems unusual, as previously in similar cases, when bids did not take place, the property was usually put up for sale again later and often at a lower price.
Pavel Daneyko is a Belarusian economist and expert in economic research. He was the administrative director of the BEROC research center, one of the founders of the Institute of Privatization and Management, and other analytical organizations. In various years, he also served on the boards of directors of Belagazprombank and Gomselmash, was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus of the 13th convocation, and one of the founders of the United Civil Party.
In February 2025, the Minsk City Court in absentia sentenced Daneyko to 12 years of imprisonment and a fine of 13,000 basic units (at that time — 546,000 rubles). According to the indictment, he was found guilty on three counts: conspiracy to seize state power, participation in an "extremist formation" recognized by the Belarusian authorities, and illegal entrepreneurial activity without an appropriate license.
According to the investigation, after the events of August 2020, Pavel Daneyko joined the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition and participated in actions that the Belarusian authorities regarded as attempts to unconstitutionally change power.
