The number of abortions in Belarus reached a historical minimum. But in Mogilev region, they are still rising
The number of abortions in the country has decreased 20-fold compared to 1990.
In 2025, 13,679 abortions were performed in Belarus — 5.3% less than the previous year (14,444). This is a new historical minimum: the indicator has been decreasing annually for several decades. Such data was published by Belstat.
For comparison, in 2010 there were 33.3 thousand, in 2019 — 21.3 thousand. Compared to 1990, the number of abortions decreased by approximately 20 times.
However, the overall decrease is uneven across regions. The Vitebsk (—19.0%, from 2506 to 2029) and Gomel (—18.1%, from 3379 to 2769) regions showed the most significant reduction in the indicator.
At the same time, the Mogilev region went against the general trend — an increase of 16.6% (from 1538 to 1793).
The indicator also significantly increased in Minsk — by 8.9% (from 2451 to 2668).
The Minsk region reduced the figure by 10.4%, Brest region remained practically unchanged (—0.3%), Grodno region — also almost unchanged (+0.2%).
