And what is the healthiest option?
The most controversial summer footwear option is flip-flops. They are more suitable for going to the pool or the beach than for daily wear in the city, comments traumatologist-orthopedist Roman Kudrautseu to "Minskaya Prauda".
«The fixation of such footwear on the foot occurs due to the compression of the toes in the front part. This is a pathological condition that leads to calluses and problems with toe tendons,» the doctor warned.
As a safer alternative, the doctor suggested Crocs.
Properly selected sandals are also suitable for short walks. However, for prolonged walking, they are not always the best choice due to insufficient orthopedic support.
The traumatologist named sneakers as the most successful option for summer footwear. According to him, quality models have a foamed sole that softens the load when walking, reduces impact on joints, and provides stability thanks to the tread. In addition, such footwear properly secures the heel.
«If it's hot in sneakers in summer, perforated models can be used,» the specialist commented.
The doctor also noted that the best training for feet in the warm season remains walking barefoot. For this, it is not necessary to go to a sea beach - walks on the grass in a park, forest paths, or a dacha plot will suffice.
