A judge in California has suspended the criminal proceedings against the artist, who was arrested last August for attacking police officers while wandering the streets of Los Angeles semi-naked, on the condition that he undergoes psychiatric treatment.

At a hearing on Monday, Judge Allan Schneider told the "Old Town Road" hitmaker that if he completes treatment and commits no new offenses for two years, the charges against him will be dropped.

Assaulting police officers is classified as a felony and carries a penalty of up to five years in prison. In addition, Lil Nas X (real name Montero Lamar Hill) was charged with resisting arrest.

Police found Hill late at night on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles – in just briefs and cowboy boots. He was then taken to the hospital with suspected drug overdose.

After this incident, the rapper was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Following his arrest, he spent two months in a treatment facility in Arizona.

After the court hearing, Lil Nas X smiled and gave reporters a thumbs-up. "I'm grateful. Just really grateful. It could have been much worse," he told Rolling Stone magazine.

After Hill's arrest, his father, Robert Stafford, revealed that his son's condition was influenced by his mother's long history of addiction and his inability to help her.

"He's 26 years old, and he has to earn a living for a lot of people, and he can't change his mother's situation, and he's also putting pressure on himself. That's a heavy burden on the soul," Stafford said.
