Yury Demidovich, "The Magic Rabbit," Appointed Head of a Russian Provincial Opera Theater
The team of the Komi Republic Opera and Ballet Theater was formally introduced to its new artistic director – a Belarusian. We are talking about the young conductor Yury Demidovich, whom his compatriots remember as "The Magic Rabbit" from Junior Eurovision.
Local officials expect Yury to ensure that "the regional theater is visible on the federal cultural map." Demidovich himself emphasized: "For me, the Komi Republic Opera and Ballet Theater is a theater with potential and character. My task as artistic director is to build a clear strategy, raise the performance level, and create conditions under which the theater can become one of Russia's leading opera theaters. This is an ambitious but absolutely achievable goal with joint professional work."
Recall that Yury Demidovich represented Belarus at Junior Eurovision in 2009. Back then, with his song "The Magic Rabbit," he only took ninth place but became incredibly popular not only in his homeland but also beyond its borders. The video of the boy's competition song, with his unusual appearance, went viral almost immediately.
However, Yury himself did not like such fame – he grew up in a rather religious family and had been singing in a church choir since the age of three. And viewers endlessly joked that the song "The Magic Rabbit" could easily summon the devil. Therefore, at some point, the young man declared that he would never again perform his main hit – and he kept his promise. He even refused to open for The Prodigy when they visited Minsk.
As a result, the talented young man decided to study to become a conductor. His career has been quite successful. Yury has won many music competitions, and he has conducted orchestras in various theaters in Belarus and Russia.
