The arrests took place on Sunday morning, September 27. Following this, the police declared a major incident, cordoned off part of the settlement, and people from several houses were relocated to a sports center.

Vehicles are being checked by military explosives disposal specialists. Significant emergency services forces have gathered at the scene, including a medical team prepared to work in hazardous conditions.

Police stated that the situation is under control.

What exactly may have been found with the detainees or in the vehicles has not yet been reported. It has also not been officially confirmed that the incident is directly related to the airbase.

RAF Fairford has been used to house American bombers since the start of the US conflict with Iran on February 28. In March, four US bombers arrived at the base — after then-Prime Minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer authorized the use of British bases for defensive operations against Iranian missile facilities.

A US Air Force spokesperson stated that American personnel at RAF Fairford are "maintaining vigilance." However, the military declined to disclose specifics, citing operational security.
