Family of a schoolboy from Baranavichy tries for two years to stop his bullying at school

In Baranavichy, the family of teenager Lev Rusan reported his prolonged harassment at Gymnasium No. 4. According to the boy and his parents, classmates insult him, beat him, damage his personal belongings, and demand that he leave the class, school, and even the city, writes BG.Media.

The family claims to have been trying to solve the problem for about two years. During this time, relatives contacted the class teacher and the gymnasium administration, the education departments of Baranavichy and Brest, the police, the juvenile affairs inspectorate, and the prosecutor's office. The case has now gone to court.

The teenager's older sister, Kira Rusan, spoke about the situation. According to her, the family has already tried various ways to protect the boy, but they have not yet managed to stop the harassment.

Lev's father, Stanislau Rusan, listed the institutions where the family had appealed. Court hearings are currently underway. At the same time, according to him, attempts are being made to register the family with the juvenile affairs inspectorate.

The father considers this unfair. According to his version, his son was only trying to defend himself and, in one instance, held the arm of a teenager he considers his abuser.

Lev himself spoke about what is happening in a video appeal. According to him, peers regularly call him derogatory names and demand that he leave the class, gymnasium, and even the city.

The teenager claims that he was beaten by a group several times, and his backpack and other belongings were drowned in the toilet. In the cafeteria, according to him, he is constantly sent to sit at a separate table.

Lev also showed bruises on his body and stated that the harassment has been going on for about a year. Especially difficult, according to him, is his anticipation of the approaching new school year.

In the comments, the family was advised to transfer the boy to another gymnasium or school. Some suggested sending him to boxing so he could fight back against his tormentors.

However, Lev's father considers such an approach wrong. He fears that another attempt to defend himself could lead to a serious injury, after which the boy himself would be blamed.

Moreover, the family does not want to simply change schools. According to the father, Lev has good relationships with subject teachers. He also claims that the problem extends beyond the gymnasium.

Similar conflicts, according to him, also arose in the dance and music schools the teenager attends. There, teachers, Rusan claims, timely stop conflicts and do not allow them to escalate into harassment.

The family has also filed a lawsuit against representatives of the gymnasium. The father believes that it was the legal process that forced the educational institution to pay closer attention to the situation.

The Department of Education of the Baranavichy City Executive Committee reported that an investigation into the situation has begun. Officials are not yet drawing conclusions about what exactly happened in the gymnasium and who is responsible. The department stated that the review of the situation is still ongoing, so it is premature to draw conclusions and provide assessments.

For Lev's family, however, the problem has been ongoing for more than a month. Therefore, the question now is not only what happened between the schoolchildren, but also why the conflict could not be stopped earlier.

The Minister of Education, Andrei Ivanets, previously commented on the problem of school bullying. According to him, bullying is the personal responsibility of the school director and, at the same time, the problem of every teacher. Ivanets also stated that reports of harassment received by the Ministry of Education are directly investigated in schools.
