A resident of Byaroza found out he bought a car with a re-stamped VIN during property division
A 52-year-old resident of Byaroza failed to deregister his "Mercedes" car.
During the verification of the identification number, the traffic police officer had doubts about its authenticity. The man explained that he bought the car two years ago in another city. The car was sent for examination to investigate its marking designation.
An expert from the Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee for the Brest region confirmed the doubts — the VIN of the "Mercedes" car had been altered.
The specialist found that the marking designation was changed by removing the marked part and subsequently inserting a new one in its place, as well as replacing the main plate with the one currently on the car. The expert also established the original value of the identification number.
Moreover, the Mercedes was assembled from three different cars.
The car owner said that he was dividing property with his wife and intended to sell the vehicle. The man did not know that there might be issues with the identification number. According to him, he did not carry out any bodywork or change the body number during his ownership of the car.
