Ministry of Health changed the list of diseases that prohibit driving a car
The Ministry of Health of Belarus has updated the list of diseases and contraindications that prohibit driving cars, tractors, self-propelled machines, and small motor vessels. The corresponding resolution was published by the National Legal Portal.
The changes provide for broader driving access in a number of cases. In particular, the prohibition periods for driving after the installation of a pacemaker or cardioverter-defibrillator, as well as after an uncomplicated myocardial infarction, have been shortened.
People with an amputation of one lower limb above the level of the tarsometatarsal joint will now also be able to drive a tractor if they use a prosthesis.
Pregnancy has been excluded from the list of contraindications.
At the same time, a single convulsive seizure has been added to the list — provided certain conditions are met for driving admission. The use of psychoactive substances is also taken into account, even if it has not yet led to manifest health consequences.
People who use psychoactive substances may, in some cases, be admitted to driving provided they undergo quarterly medical preventive examinations. This will require a conclusion from a medical advisory commission, and the examination will be conducted once a year. The possibility of stopping mandatory medical examinations based on the conclusion of a psychiatrist-narcologist is also provided.
The Ministry of Health noted that the new rules will allow some drivers, after having suffered cardiovascular diseases and musculoskeletal disorders, to return to work after a period of temporary incapacity without losing their profession. At the same time, the inclusion of restrictions related to the use of psychoactive substances in the list should increase road safety.
Resolution No. 83 of the Ministry of Health dated July 10, 2026, entered into force on August 16.
