Something exploded in an elite restaurant in the center of Moscow — three dead
On the evening of August 1, an explosion occurred in the Balzi Rossi restaurant on Kudrinskaya Square in the center of Moscow. According to preliminary information, three people died and about 20 more were injured, writes The Moscow Times.
At the time of the incident, a wedding involving about 50 people was taking place in the restaurant. The establishment was closed to other visitors. Among the injured are also restaurant employees.
Firefighters, rescuers, and medics arrived at the scene. The injured are being evacuated on stretchers and transported to hospitals by ambulances.
The causes of the explosion are still being investigated. According to one version, a fire and explosion of gas equipment in the kitchen might have occurred. According to another, the explosion happened in the restaurant's guest hall. There is no official confirmation of the causes yet.
A source of the Astra publication reported that a general's birthday might have been celebrated in the restaurant where the explosion occurred.
According to her, many cars with black government license plates were allegedly parked near the restaurant. Such license plates are usually used on vehicles of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as a number of other security agencies. In addition, a Rosgvardiya (Russian National Guard) bus was located near the restaurant. However, there is no confirmation of this information yet.
Due to the emergency, Moscow authorities blocked traffic on the section from Barrikadnaya metro station to Novinsky Boulevard. The night cycling festival was also canceled, and its participants were evacuated from the Garden Ring.
