Vladimir Karcheuny is 42 years old, he was born on July 19, 1984, in Moscow. In the mid-2000s, the man moved to Belarus and settled in Zhlobin.

After several years, he worked in Poland. Later, he returned to Belarus and moved to the agro-town of Shchytkavichy, Staradarozhski district, Minsk region.

In his free time, Vladimir loved to walk in the forest with his dog Bruno.

It is known that Vladimir holds pro-Ukrainian views. It appears he was detained for comments in support of Ukraine.

The Homiel Regional Court handed down a guilty verdict against him immediately under three articles of the Criminal Code: for discrediting Belarus (Art. 369-1), calls for sanctions or other actions harmful to national security (Part 3, Art. 361), and insulting Lukashenka (Part 1, Art. 368).

Karcheuny was sentenced to a penal colony, but the exact term is unknown.

Mass political repressions in the country began after 2020. At that time, Alexander Lukashenka lost to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya but did not cede power to her, instead forcing her to leave the country. This triggered massive popular protests involving millions of people. In response, the authorities initiated arrests.

According to calculations by the law enforcement association "Belpol" and human rights defenders, the names of at least 9594 people who faced politically motivated criminal cases are known. In total, some form of political repression (criminal cases, administrative offenses, dismissals, searches) affected about 500,000 Belarusians. Several hundred thousand people were forced to leave the country.

The Belarusian authorities consider "extremism" to be the demand for free elections with transparent vote counting, as well as virtually any criticism of the authorities, pro-Russian historical narratives, or expressions of solidarity with Ukraine.
