Remains of Ukrainian soldiers who died in 1941 found in the Homiel region
Participants of the regional public search association "We will never forget" found the remains of several soldiers on Maryinskaya Heights in the Dobrush district. A purchased German aerial photograph of the area helped, writes "Flagstock".
By overlaying an old photo onto a modern satellite image, and with the help of a special computer program, it was possible to identify the locations of craters from aerial bombs and artillery shells. The discoveries were made during their investigation, reported the district newspaper "Dobrush Krai".
The first findings were spent cartridges and elements of army ammunition. At a depth of 50-60 centimeters, the remains of a soldier appeared, and a mortal medallion's case was found nearby.
Then the remains of other soldiers and another medallion were found. This is an unprecedented stroke of luck, noted the searchers, as the soldiers died in the first year of the war, when filling out medallion slips and carrying them was considered a bad omen.
The finds were handed over to the 52nd separate specialized search battalion. So far, two soldiers have been identified: Konstantin Timofeevich Radzanovsky, born in 1921, city of Korop, Chernihiv region, Beregovaya Street, house 33. The second soldier turned out to be from Poltava region of the Ukrainian SSR, from the village of Velyka Pavlivka: Nikolay Ivanovich Kishkar, born in 1921, listed as missing in action in casualty records.
Work on identifying the remains of the third soldier has not yet been completed. This information was confirmed by searcher Alexander Snitko and published on his page photos of documents of the deceased whose identities have been established.
