Vacationers: «Liuban quarries under prohibition, roads will be dug up!» Is it true?
The Liuban chalk quarries are a unique place in Belarus, often called the "blue lakes" or "Belarusian Maldives" due to the characteristic turquoise hue of the water. In summer, Belarusians flock here to enjoy nature and take picturesque photos. But recently, alarming information appeared on Threads: allegedly, the quarries will be banned. This was reported by a girl who came there to relax and heard about plans to dig up roads around the reservoir. Is this true, Onlíner found out .

«Liuban quarries are banned! Traffic police (GAI), Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), and foresters are on duty. There's a barrier and camera traps. From 20.07.2026, according to the forester, special equipment will be brought in to dig up all bypass roads».
Liuban Forestry: «No one is closing access to the chalk quarries»
Onlíner contacted the Liuban Forestry. The chief forester commented on the situation:
«No one is closing access to the chalk quarries. Forest visitation is regulated according to the fire hazard class. Today is the first class: you can enter the chalk quarries and drive in by car. If the third class is declared, you can enter on foot, but you cannot drive in by car. Fourth class and higher – you cannot drive in or enter on foot, meaning forest visitation is closed.
We will indeed bring in special equipment to dig up all bypass roads, except for one – which goes from the Building Materials Plant towards Urechcha. You will be able to both enter and exit using it.
This year, it even underwent repairs. If forest visitation is restricted, the barrier will be closed. This is done to prevent reckless drivers who try to enter through the forest, despite the restrictions and the fine they face. We have no other way but to regulate this traffic. We do this every year».

Swimming in the Liuban chalk quarries is prohibited. This is a technical reservoir with steep banks.
