WWII Ammunition Found on a Plot in Rechytsa District

A resident of the agrotown Karavatsichy in the Rechytsa district found ammunition from the times of World War II during earthworks on his plot, the State Forensic Examination Committee reported .

The man collected the find, carefully put it in his garage, and planned to figure out what to do with it later, but then forgot about it. Only half a year later did he remember the dangerous items and contacted law enforcement.

Police officers confiscated the ammunition and sent it for ballistic examination. Specialists determined that all cartridges were industrially manufactured and are genuine ammunition for 7.92 mm Mauser system rifles and modernized 7.5 mm Lebel system rifles.

Karavatsichy became a place of heavy fighting during World War II. In August 1941, the village was occupied by German troops, and in November 1943, during the Gomel-Rechytsa offensive operation, a major tank battle took place there. Tanks, artillery, and infantry units participated in the battles, and afterwards, much weaponry and ammunition remained, which local residents still find to this day.

Experts remind: if you find cartridges, weapons, or other similar items, you must immediately report them to the police. Illegal storage or handling of firearms, ammunition, and explosives can lead to criminal liability.
