"Minskaya Prauda" called for blocking popular social networks and strictly punishing complainers. District newspapers enthusiastically echoed it.
Recently, state bodies and propaganda resources have been greatly annoyed by Belarusian citizens who, having lost hope of solving their various problems by appealing to competent institutions, try to draw public attention to them through social networks. But there are already ideas on how to combat such human activity — either these communication channels must be blocked, or using them must be made personally dangerous.
In her article on the "Minskaya Prauda" website, propagandist Maryna Subota reflects on the influence of social networks, primarily TikTok and Threads, on society and the work of state bodies. In her opinion, if an internet platform poses a threat to national security or is used to spread inaccurate information, the state should restrict access to it.
The author claims that many users allegedly use social networks not to solve problems, but for public complaints, without trying to contact the relevant services or authorities. At the same time, she believes that some messages turn out to be exaggerated, one-sided, or even untrue.
She pays special attention to the fact that people spend more and more time on social networks instead of live communication, professional development, and family life. In her opinion, the fascination with short videos and constant feed browsing can negatively affect the ability to analyze information, concentrate, and perceive more complex texts.
Maryna Subota also notes that through social networks, people often fall victim to scammers, and state bodies and journalists have to spend significant resources checking numerous complaints that do not always have serious grounds. In her opinion, this situation can also be exploited by those who seek to increase public tension.
Finally, the author expresses the opinion that it is necessary to strengthen responsibility for spreading false or inaccurate information on social networks, and also to consider the possibility of restricting access to such platforms if their activities harm society and hinder the normal work of state structures.
"If we adhere to the fair principle 'criticize — propose,' my proposal is as follows: block or at least introduce administrative responsibility for lies and inaccuracies in posts, because all this threatens, if not national security (although I believe it's a matter of time if this hysteria with complaints continues), then certainly the normal workflow of all involved," writes Maryna Subota.
It is characteristic that soon after the article appeared in the regional "Minskaya Prauda," it was reprinted by district newspapers of the Minsk region: Maladzyechna, Borisov, Nesvizh, Berezino, Slutsk, Logoisk and others.
