A strip in a Belarusian woman's passport tore off before the first page. What the State Border Committee says

Social networks are discussing an unusual problem with a Belarusian passport.

Threads user Ulad recounted that the paper strip before the first page of his wife's document had torn off, and he wondered if this could cause problems when crossing the border, writes Onliner.by.

The man published photos of the passport and tagged the State Border Committee account in the post.

In the comments, representatives of the agency replied that they recommend replacing the document.

Dozens of user comments also appeared under the post, sharing similar cases. Some claimed to have crossed the border without problems with even more serious passport damage, while others said that they were asked additional questions because of this strip.

"When you return, there might be questions. I was detained for about ten minutes at the border," one user wrote.

Another commentator reported: "Last year we were returning to Belarus, and my sister had this strip torn. They held her passport for about fifteen minutes and asked questions. But, fortunately, everything turned out fine."

That very strip before the first page of a Belarusian passport is not a security element, but a technological element of the document's binding and lamination.

Why then does it cause questions? The fact is that damage to this strip can look as if pages were torn out or attempted to be replaced from the passport. Therefore, border guards are obliged to make sure that no changes have been made to the document and that it has not been tampered with.
