Architectural object that was supposed to become one of the city's symbols will be demolished in Tbilisi

The Tbilisi authorities have made a final decision to dismantle the famous futuristic complex in Rike Park, known as "Fuksas's pipes" or the Music Theatre and Exhibition Hall. For more than ten years, this unusual building remained one of the most recognizable, yet also one of the most controversial architectural objects in the Georgian capital.

The complex was designed by the Italian architectural bureau Studio Fuksas. It consists of two interconnected tube-like structures, decorated with steel and glass. Construction began in 2011, when Mikheil Saakashvili was the President of Georgia. The idea was for the building to house a concert hall and an exhibition center.

By 2012, the main construction work was almost completed, but after the change of government in Georgia, the project was never put into operation. In subsequent years, the building changed owners several times, but none of the proposed ideas for its use were realized. The complex gradually fell into disrepair, and the city authorities repeatedly called it non-functional and abandoned.

In July 2026, the Department of Architecture of Tbilisi City Hall issued an official permit for the demolition of the object. The owner of the complex, Makro Constructions, must complete the demolition work by December 25, 2026.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated that the decision was made due to the poor technical condition of the building and the lack of its practical use. What will appear on the liberated plot in the city center has not yet been determined. Earlier, the possibility of building a hotel was discussed, but the final project has not yet been approved.

Thus, the demolition of "Fuksas's pipes" will put an end to the history of one of the most unusual architectural projects of modern Tbilisi, which became a symbol of ambitious plans of the early 2010s but never received full use.
