"From Belarus to Prison." Our country's name was played upon at a fun show in Vilnius
In the center of Vilnius, for the first time in the Baltic countries, the extreme Red Bull Tandemynės show took place as part of the River Festival (Upės festivalis), gathering thousands of spectators and dozens of participants. Daredevils on homemade tandem bicycles descended from a ramp, trying to navigate a risky track over the water, but many, along with their unusual constructions, eventually ended up in the Vilija River, writes the 15min.lt publication.
Participants surprised not only with speed but also with imagination. Each team had to prepare an original presentation before the race. Spectators saw unusual costumes, creative images, theatrical mini-performances, and various engineering inventions.
Red Bull Tandemynės became one of the main events of the Jaunas kaip Vilnius ("Young like Vilnius") festival. The mayor of the Lithuanian capital, Valdas Benkunskas, noted that such an event helped rediscover the Vilija River as a place for active recreation.
The format of the show, which was held for the first time in Lithuania and invented in the Netherlands, attracted great interest. Thousands of Vilnius residents and city guests watched the competition from the embankments, enjoying not only the extreme races but also the creative performances of the teams.
For Belarusians, however, one of the teams attracted the most interest: their homemade tandem had the inscription From Belarus to Prison. And the vehicle itself was made in the form of a prison cell.
The meanings conveyed by this slogan can be understood by whose figure, wearing swimming trunks and tattoos, lies beneath the inscription — the infamous Antanas Kandrotas-Celofanas in Lithuania, whom Belarusian propagandists recently "evacuated" from Lithuania and who managed to give Belarusian television an "interview without censorship or oversight."
The team that came up with this act is called Kontrabanda, and its participants are not Belarusians.
Incidentally, the "smugglers" did not reach the finish line: their construction overturned at a certain point and fell into the river along with the people on board.
