European Union plans to lift tariffs on most products from Armenia

The European Union plans to abolish tariffs on about 80 percent of products imported from Armenia. This was announced by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after a meeting in Yerevan with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Bloomberg reports .

According to these plans, fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages of Armenian production, will be able to be supplied to EU countries without customs duties.

In addition, the European Union intends to allocate 52 million euros to Armenia and send experts to the country who will help expand the export of Armenian products to the European market.

However, before these measures come into force, they must be approved by all European Union member states and the European Parliament.

Experts note that Armenia may face difficulties in supplying perishable products to Europe, as the country does not have direct access to the sea. It is also possible that the abolition of tariffs on Armenian alcoholic beverages will cause dissatisfaction among winemakers in some EU countries, primarily in France.

Previously, Russia imposed a number of restrictions on the import of Armenian products, including flowers, mineral water, vegetables, and fruits. After the parliamentary elections in Armenia, where pro-Russian forces suffered a defeat, the ban was extended to all quarantined products.
