National Bank reports that Belarusians' interest in the euro is close to zero
Andrei Kartun, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, spoke on the "Belarus 1" TV channel about how Belarusians' currency preferences have changed.
According to Andrei Kartun, the euro, which previously accounted for more than 20% of Belarusian currency payments, has now practically ceased to be in demand, and its share is tending towards zero.
Belarusians' interest in the dollar has also decreased. At the same time, the population is increasingly saving money in Belarusian rubles. The total volume of citizens' deposits has exceeded 25 billion rubles, and about 70% of deposits are now denominated in rubles. Just a few years ago, approximately half of the deposits were in dollars.
Andrei Kartun also noted that for the third consecutive year, Belarusians, on the whole, sell more foreign currency than they buy.
