At the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, during a round table on "Current Issues in Research, Restoration, and Museification of Kreva Castle," experts presented the results of recent archaeological works and also talked about what Kreva Castle will become after the completion of the works.
The first stage of the castle's restoration, aimed at preserving authentic fragments that have survived to the present day through centuries, has already been successfully completed. According to Tatsiana Razhava, head of the culture department of the Smarhon District Executive Committee, specialists now face a new ambitious task.
“We want to make the castle not just stone walls, but a living object where tourists can discover a lot of new things. Our goal is for Kreva Castle to contribute to the development of history and patriotism. We invite experts to collaborate on the creation of a museum, which should soon appear in Kreva,” said the representative of the district executive committee.
Alena Karlyanok, the chief architect of the project from the "Belrestauratsyya" design branch, spoke about the immediate progress of the works. According to her, the 2025 studies fully confirmed the architects' assumptions.
“We found the third tower of the castle. The outline of the structure with powerful foundations and vaulted ceilings was excavated. Additionally, a small lower gate was discovered in its immediate vicinity. The hewn stones allowed us to accurately determine its dimensions, and structures found on the sides indicate a defense system for this entrance,” explained Alena Karlyanok.
The work schedule has already been determined. In April, the project documentation will be submitted for state expert review. Construction and installation works are planned to begin in the summer.
“We expect to complete the construction and installation works by the end of the current year. Immediately after that, the task of museification of the premises and the creation of a permanent museum exposition will arise,” added the project architect.
