During the restoration of a synagogue in the Vawkavysk district, the foundation of an unknown building was found
The restoration is being carried out in the center of Izabelin village, which has a rich history, and concerns an architectural monument of the 18th century — a Baroque synagogue. In the future, a museum exhibition is planned to be organized here, writes BelTA.

During excavation works, employees of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, who are carrying out archaeological supervision, found the stone foundation of another building.
It could have been mistaken for the foundation of the "Kleine Shul" — the Small Synagogue, which was part of the Izabelin synagogue complex. However, it is known that the wooden Small Synagogue existed only from the 19th century, while the discovered foundation dates back to the second half of the 18th century, as evidenced by numismatic material.
The foundation has several architectural features, among which a particularly interesting one is the use of stone millstones in its construction. Researchers were also interested to find that the foundation in the entrance area is covered with flat roofing material from the 17th century.
In addition, the base of a stove with scattered 17th-century tiles was found. This indicates that before the creation of the synagogue complex in the center of Izabelin, another building with richly decorated stoves existed there.
