Kremlin: Decision on Putin's participation in G20 summit not yet made
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday commented on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statement that the White House sent an invitation to the Russian president for the December G20 summit.
Whether Putin will accept the invitation, which implies a new meeting with President Donald Trump, has not yet been decided, Peskov said, writes the BBC.
«It's too early to talk about it, the decision has not yet been made. We gratefully accept this courteous invitation. We value this invitation, and it will be processed», — he told reporters.
The day before, the US Secretary of State met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. After the meeting, which lasted 52 minutes, Rubio told reporters: «We invited President Putin to the G20 summit. We believe this is an opportunity for him to speak not only with our president, but also with other world leaders. We hope that he will accept this invitation and that such a meeting will take place in December».
Peskov stated that Russia will participate in the G20, as in previous years: «Its [Russia's] participation can be either at the highest level, or at a lower level, at a working level. But in any case, Russia intends to continue its participation as effectively as possible».
