Minsk resident left 44 thousand rubles in a hiding place, she thought a collector would pick it up

A 33-year-old resident of Minsk became a victim of fraudsters following a familiar scheme.

The deception scheme began with a call in a messenger app. An unknown person introduced himself as an employee of "Belpochta" (Belarusian Post) and, under the pretext of a registered letter, tricked the woman into giving him an SMS code, reports "Minsk Police".

Immediately after that, a call came from an alleged police officer, who said that the woman had previously spoken with fraudsters, and now money was being transferred from her name to criminal accounts.

After a short pause, the fake police officer called via video link and informed her that some of the transfers made in her name had been prevented. To avoid criminal liability, the interlocutor advised her to take out loans from banks and thus compensate for the money spent on already completed transfers.

The Minsk resident took out two loans from the bank for 44,000 rubles, added her own savings to this amount, and twice took the money to designated locations — supposedly for collection by cash-in-transit employees.

A criminal case has been initiated.
