In Brest, a man rented accommodation from a pensioner and paid with money stolen from her safe
In Brest, the investigation of a criminal case regarding theft on a particularly large scale has been completed. The victim was an 87-year-old resident of the city, who had been saving her savings for three decades, the Investigative Committee reports .

According to investigative materials, a 45-year-old native of Zhabinka had been renting a summer house from the pensioner on her homestead plot for a long time. The woman trusted the tenant because he helped her with household chores. But this February, the man accidentally noticed where the hostess kept the key to the safe with money.
Taking advantage of the woman's absence, he opened the safe and took some of the cash. He deposited the stolen funds into his bank account, after which he began to spend them. At the same time, he paid the hostess for rent with her own money. When the stolen funds ran out in May, the man again broke into the safe and took several more thousand rubles, which he used to buy a car.
In early June, the pensioner discovered that her savings had decreased. She was missing more than 45 thousand rubles and reported it to the police.
During the investigation, the accused fully admitted his guilt and voluntarily compensated for the damage caused. He has been charged with theft on a particularly large scale. By decision of the prosecutor, the man was taken into custody pending trial.
