Zelenskyy: Patriot Missiles Exist in the World, Only Political Decisions Are Needed
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in his evening video address that the necessary missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems exist in the world, but their transfer to Ukraine requires a political decision from partner countries.
According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the United States and European states know what assistance Ukraine needs. He emphasized that anti-ballistic missiles should be used to protect civilians, not stored in warehouses.
"Patriot missiles exist in the world, it is important that partners make this political decision — a decision to transfer the necessary packages. The United States of America knows what we need. Europe knows what we need.
Anti-ballistic missiles must protect people, not lie in warehouses. And every day of the absence of such appropriate important aid is an opportunity for Russia to kill people," the President of Ukraine emphasized.
Zelenskyy also called for additional sanctions against companies and individuals who assist the Russian defense industry in producing ballistic missiles, launchers, and supplying necessary components. He noted that there are still gaps in the jurisdictions of G7 countries that allow circumvention of sanction restrictions.
Separately, the President of Ukraine touched upon the energy sector, stating that it is necessary to stop any assistance that allows Russia to resume the operation of its oil refining enterprises.
To discuss these issues, a global meeting with Ukrainian ambassadors is planned in the near future. According to Zelenskyy, the main tasks will be to achieve new results in terms of arms supplies and increasing international sanctions pressure on Russia.
He also reported that he held discussions with representatives of the Ukrainian delegation working with the American side, including Rustem Umerov, Kyrylo Budanov, Serhii Kyslytsia, and Pavlo Polis. According to him, the coming weeks should be a period of active diplomatic work.
These statements came after a massive Russian missile strike on Kyiv and the Kyiv region on the night of August 1. According to Ukrainian authorities, nine people died in the capital, and another 33 were wounded. In the Kyiv region, one person died, and nine were wounded.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that due to a deficit of missiles for Patriot systems, Ukrainian air defense forces were able to intercept only one of the 27 Russian ballistic missiles launched during that attack.
