On the night of August 1, Russians once again attacked Ukraine. Dozens of people were injured in five districts of Kyiv. Seven Kyiv residents died in the Darnytskyi district of the Ukrainian capital, which the enemy attacked with ballistic missiles.

Some of them were hit while trying to reach a shelter, Suspilne. Kyiv reports.
In the Darnytskyi district, two ballistic missiles struck near residential buildings. 13 multi-story buildings were damaged, and a large crater formed in one of the squares after a missile fell.
After the air raid siren was announced, local residents ran to a concrete structure used as a shelter. At that moment, one of the missiles exploded nearby — five people died.
When other Kyiv residents began to provide assistance to the injured, another missile struck nearby, killing two more people.
A resident of one of the damaged multi-story buildings said that his neighbor died during the attack — the man had his legs torn off.
"The first explosion thundered when everyone was asleep. The second — when poor people started to flee. Some are now concussed.
There was a more or less sturdy concrete structure down there, a factory used to be there. People hid there. Those who ran there were cut by shrapnel. In our house, all three-room apartments are damaged. Some people couldn't get out," said Oleg, a Kyiv resident.
During the attack, patrol police officer Yahor Tsiarokhin died. That night, he was helping the injured at the scene of the shelling. The 22-year-old Kyiv resident is survived by his mother and nine-year-old brother.
"Yahor began his service in the Kyiv Patrol Police in 2025. He was dedicated to his oath, diligently performed his official duties, was a reliable partner and a person who always came to the aid of those who needed it.
He remained so until the last minute of his life. Saving others, he gave the most precious thing — his own life," the Patrol Police reported.

Another married couple managed to escape by hiding in the bathroom. The husband and wife live on the third floor of one of the five-story buildings, where the Russian strike partially destroyed the entrance on the first two floors.
"The bathroom saved us. The tiles started to fall, but the boiler survived. I don't know how it didn't fall on our heads and how we stayed alive.
My husband only slightly cut his leg on the glass. But overall, God saved us — I can't explain it any other way," said Lesia, a Kyiv resident.
The Solomianskyi district was also hit, where two multi-story buildings were damaged, Kyiv24 reports. Apartments in the buildings burned out, most windows were blown out by the blast wave, interfloor ceilings were destroyed, and balconies and facades were damaged.

"We heard the first few explosions and started running out of the apartment, but we saw another ballistic missile flying, so we decided not to risk it and stayed. At some point, we heard an impact — the lights went out. Then there was a second impact and a very strong blast wave.
When we opened our eyes, we saw that all our windows and doors were knocked out. Basically, only the walls remained," said one of the residents of Kyiv.
