Chekhov's "Lady with the Dog" disappeared from its place in Mogilev. What will happen to it?
One of Mogilev's most famous city sculptures, "Lady with the Dog," which greeted visitors near the Drama Theater for more than twenty years, has disappeared from its pedestal.
As reported by the Telegram channel "Mogilev Online," the dismantling of the sculpture is related to the start of repairs to the theater's entrance group. In the near future, it is planned to tidy up the steps, ramps, and the area adjacent to the building.
The bronze composition itself has been sent for restoration. According to the theater, the sculpture will be cleaned and its protective coating updated, after which it will return to its usual place.
The "Lady with the Dog" sculpture was installed near the Mogilev Drama Theater in 2003. Its author was the famous Belarusian sculptor Vladimir Zhbanov, whose works ("The Stranger," "Girl with an Umbrella," "Photographer," "Horse") have become a hallmark of Minsk. The Mogilev sculpture depicts Anna Sergeyevna, the heroine of Anton Chekhov's story, with her Spitz.
A similar work by Zhbanov, dedicated to the same literary heroine, is also installed near Komarovsky Market in the capital.
