Mural "Partisans of Brest Region" opened in Brest. This is already the fourth such object in the city
On July 28, on the 82nd anniversary of the liberation of Brest from the Germans and the 1007th anniversary of the city, the mural "Partisans of Brest Region" was presented in the city. This is already the fourth such art object in the regional center, dedicated to the theme of the Second World War, writes BG.Media.
The mural "Partisans of Brest Region" was placed at the corner of Partizansky Avenue. It depicts a man and a woman – collective images of Belarusian partisans from the Second World War. Below the image are lines from a work by Yanka Kupala.
Representatives of the city authorities, including the leadership of the Moskovsky district of Brest and the military commissar of the city and district, were present at the official opening. Representatives of the authorities called the mural "a visible bridge between the heroic past and the peaceful present" and noted that the location for it was chosen not by chance – on Partizansky Avenue, such a theme looks logical.
The new art object caused widespread debate on social networks. Many townspeople did not criticize the quality of the drawing but expressed dissatisfaction that Brest is getting more and more murals exclusively on military themes.
Some commentators wrote that the city is already oversaturated with military-patriotic images and that they would like to see more diverse subjects – about modern Belarus, culture, science, art, architecture, and famous people.
Among the responses were also remarks: why is the history of Belarus in urban space actually reduced only to the events of the Second World War?
There were, however, residents who supported the appearance of the mural. They noted that Partizansky Avenue is an appropriate place for such a theme, and the drawing itself looks beautiful and helps preserve historical memory.
In June 2026, incidentally, another military mural appeared in Brest – on the end wall of a house near the Brest Fortress. It shows a Soviet serviceman against the backdrop of the Terespol Gate. Some townspeople believed that this was the image of the hero of the fortress's defense, Andrei Kizhevatov, but it was difficult to accurately identify the person from the drawing.
