Donald Trump said that Washington would demand compensation from Iran for dead and wounded American servicemen, as well as for Iranian protesters who died in recent decades. The US president stated this on August 10 on his social network Truth Social.

Trump's statement came after Tehran demanded compensation for damage caused to Iran during the five-month military conflict.

"This is an interesting idea because now I also demand compensation from Iran for all the people they have killed or severely wounded," Trump wrote.

The US president also stated that compensation should be received by the families of Iranians who died as a result of the suppression of protests over the past 50 years.

Trump claims that 52,000 people have been killed in Iran in the last five months alone. The US president did not disclose the source of these figures.

Human rights organizations have previously documented over six thousand deaths as a result of repression following nationwide protests that began in January. Human rights defenders acknowledge that the real number of victims could be significantly higher.
