Youth detective film based on Andrei Fedarenka's work started shooting at "Belarusfilm" at "Belarusfilm"

Filming has started at the Fedor Padbyarozka secondary school in Usyazh, Smalyavichy district, for a new youth detective thriller by director Kirill Khaletsky. The film, titled "19.91," is based on the work "Afghan Casket" by Belarusian writer and playwright Andrei Fedarenka, Belta writes .

The picture will tell the story of fifth-graders Tsima and Valik, an orphan girl Varya, and Afghan War veteran Boris. The heroes will find themselves at the center of dangerous events: they will have to solve the mystery of the treasures of Bactria — a historical region in Central Asia — and confront a criminal who is ready for anything for money.

Director Kirill Khaletsky noted that the film is an adaptation of one of Andrei Fedarenka's works, but the script has been significantly reworked. As a result, viewers, as promised, will get a dynamic thriller-detective that will be interesting for both children and adults.

The creators chose the title "19.91" for its symbolism. According to the director, it covers an entire historical period but leaves a certain mystery that will only be revealed in the film's finale. In addition, the numbers in the title have a distinct visual effect.

Filming will continue from July 24 until the end of October. They will take place in various locations in Belarus: Minsk, Pukhovichy, Usyazh, Zaslavl, Rakov, Zhodishki, and Berezino. Since the events of the film take place in 1991, the creators were particularly careful in selecting filming locations, interiors, and props to convey the atmosphere of that era.

The main roles will be played by young actors Eldar Cherkin, Ihar Panas, Aryna Charnetskaya, and Yauhenia Lil. Belarusian artists Alyaksei Kachan, Siarhei Pukita, Lyubou Pukita, and Yury Tsivirko, as well as Russian actors Siarhei Stsyopin and Andrei Trushin, will also star in the film.

For Eldar Cherkin, the role in "19.91" will be his first lead in a large-scale project. He said he plays a persistent boy who always sees things through to the end. This is already his 16th film role.

Children were also invited to participate in the film through an all-republican casting. The director reviewed 6447 applications and selected 306 candidates. Thus, approximately one out of twenty participants in the selection made it into the film.

Dmitry Semenov, General Director of the "Belarusfilm" film studio, noted that extensive preparatory work had been done even before filming began. According to him, the casting generated great interest, with applications coming not only from Belarusians but also from citizens of other countries.

Actor Yuri Frankov, who plays the role of a shop teacher, believes that school themes will always be relevant in cinema. His character lives by an old system of values and does not always understand modern children, which creates a conflict between generations.

The premiere of the film "19.91" is scheduled for next year. The film can be watched in two formats: as a four-part story, where each episode will last about 44 minutes, and as a full-length film for theatrical release in Belarus.
