In the city of Lucka in German Thuringia, an unknown person set fire to a historical crucifix in St. Pancras Church. The wooden crucifix, created in 1649, was almost completely destroyed by fire and, according to preliminary information, is beyond repair, Bild reports .

The fire also damaged the altar and other interior elements. After the incident, the church was closed. The fire was noticed at dawn by local residents, which helped prevent even greater destruction.
According to Bild, swastikas were found on the altar after the incident. Shortly after the fire, a 47-year-old local resident was arrested on suspicion of arson.
The motives for the incident have not yet been established. Representatives of the church community emphasize that at this time they have no information indicating a religious or political nature of the attack.
